I value your time and your bandwidth.
I am in a fight against development, "data centers", and industrial rezoning in Stokes county, but I am not anti-technology.
In fact I lvoe it, and always have!
I built my first computer in 1992 with spare parts I cobbled together from broken machines and discontinued stock. 3 years later at 14 I found work programming electronic billboards, automated irrigation systems, and pager systems for Radio Shack and Tandy corporation, and affiliated ranchers and cattlemen. In 1997 I wrote javascript for one of the first online University systems in the country.
I beleive the push for "data centers" takes powere out of the hands of the masses and enriches monopolies that want to put knowledge, experimentation, and learning behind a paywall. If you have time, I invote you to ream more about my thought on this in my blog.
The design choices of this site are on homage to the systems and terminals I used in my youth and whats more, they are brutally effecient saving you time,bandwidth, and eye strain. No popups, tacky sales techniques or advertisements.
Blue background, white monospace text, yellow links on hover — the palette here is deliberately unfashionable. It's closer to a BASIC prompt or an old BBS than anything you'd find in a modern design system, and that's the point.
A few of the details:
- Terminess Nerd Font for the typeface — the same font I run in my own terminal, self-hosted so it renders the same for you.
- A blinking block cursor after the prompt line, because a static cursor looks dead.
- Posts render inside a bordered "window" with title bar, like content living inside its own little terminal pane.
- Code blocks invert the site palette — white background, blue text — set in VT323, so they read as a distinct, quoted block of text.
Everything else — layout, spacing, grid — leans on Bootstrap so the retro skin doesn't have to fight the responsive plumbing underneath it.
